Access to food is one of the most frequent challenges faced by families, because of high costs, scarcity, and low income. Poverty exacerbates household food insecurity problems. In response to this situation, families adopt various strategies to ensure their survival. The objective of this article is to analyze the livelihood strategies of peasant households in the municipality of Metztitlán. The theoretical framework guiding this research is the Livelihood Strategies theory. This is a quantitative study, using a survey as the data collection instrument, and a descriptive analysis was conducted. It was found that pluriactivity is part of the everyday reality of peasant families. Likewise, it is concluded that these families have a poorly or moderately varied diet. Activities outside the primary sector, along with social programs, help improve income and the quality of the family diet. It is essential to develop actions that enable families to achieve food security by strengthening their livelihood strategies.
