Abstract

In Mexico, the relationship between economic growth and the environment is a
controversial issue, since it is a country that has not managed to make the transition
to a developed economy according to the Kuznets Environmental Curve and is in
14th place among the countries that contribute the most to global warming emissions,
plays a crucial role, so it is necessary to determine if there is still an economy coupled
between economic growth and environmental degradation in the country, for which
an Ordinary Least Squares model were carried out. during the period 2003 to 2020,
comparing carbon dioxide emissions per capita with the Gross Domestic Product
and a variable composed of the relationship between expenses for the environment
and the costs generated by environmental degradation in Mexico, finding that still
there is a positive correlation between these variables and it is necessary to extend
the study to a regional level in order to define go more focused programs that meet
the Paris agreements and direct us to reduce total emissions of greenhouse gases by
2030, having as one of the main limitations for regional work the data at the state and
municipal level.
