Abstract

In the rural area of the province of Valladolid, Spain, since the 1980s a gradual decline in the birth
rate has prevailed, coupled with a migration of young people to urban centers and immigration of
retirees to rural areas. This has led to depopulation, ageing and increase in the adult population,
weakening of the social fabric and economic depression, with a consequent loss of assets, exacerbated
by the indifference of both the resident population and local and provincial authorities. This article
aims to analyze the results of private and institutional initiatives carried out in 12 municipalities of
Valladolid during the period 2008-2021, aimed at the revitalization of depressed rural territories,
based on the enhancement, for conservation purposes, of significant heritage elements for the resident
population. The aforementioned experiences were analyzed and systematized, applying a qualitative
methodological approach, to conclude with a validated methodology for proposal purposes.
